The character and function of the poster

Posters are a way to indicate the change of social,economic, political and cultural events. A posters purpose is to bring our attention to a message. They are meant to advertise, they are meant to give information about political situations as well as imaginative solutions to problems. A poster has many functions. It should inform, stimulate, activate, mobilize, expound, query, provoke, motivate and convince. It fulfills and economic, cultural, political, or social purpose. it should lead the viewer to the product and appeal to them. it should improve the aesthetic sense of the viewer. The main point of a poster is to catch the eye, "like something unexpected and surprising, as a kind of optical incident". The poster must fit in the emotional atmosphere. With that, the poster should influence the brain of the passer-by so that person is fascinated. The text, motivation and incorporation into a visual part and its optical presence are ways to determine the success of a poster. The poster must be legible and the message must be understandable. The lettering in a poster is a component of the pictorial information. Lettering that is placed outside the pictorial part belongs to the whole composition. It is connected proportionally as well as in size and color. The form of presentations must be large as well as being effective at a distance. A clear shape will catch the viewers attention. The elements of shape should be produce a well composed surface that is full of interest and can be quickly read without difficulty. Colour can be the mediator of a definite atmosphere. Colour can be an element giving an impression of rhythm. Colour can simplify proceedings and accelerate processes. It can be a connecting element in posters. An effective poster always contains significant and insignificant information which cannot be measured and constitutes the essential substance of the product of creation.

Three things I learned was that the character of the poster really can determine wether the person wants to take a second to look at your poster. And that the way the text is positioned and placed on a  poster real makes a difference of wether the poster can be read quickly and easily. And lastly shape and colour show wether your poster is appropriate and suited for the atmosphere.

My favorite thing about this article is that I learned the basics of making a poster. I didn't realize all the steps and thinking processes that goes into making a poster. This is valuable because it helps show what things you should look for in posters. And if you are creating a poster you should want to know this information so that your poster in effective rather than ineffective. 

When I first read the article I didn't see why we needed to know so much about poster. I didn't see the need. I didn't see the importance. however I do know see why some things have greater success than others.
